Adaptation of Relational Humor Inventory to Turkish: A Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to adapt the Relational Humor Inventory (RHI) to Turkish. Data were collected from 206 married people. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate the construct validity of the RHI. Also, in order to test concurrent validity of the RHI Dyadic Adjustment Scale (Fışıloğlu and Demir, 2000) and Humor Styles Questionnaire (Yerlikaya, 2003) were used. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the Turkish version of the RHI had robust fit scores. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for internal consistency of the RHI were above acceptable levels. Results of multiple hierarchical regression analysis revealed that the RHI predicted more variance of marital adjustment than Humor Styles Questionnaire. The findings were discussed in relevant literature and some suggestions researchers were given.
