Perceived Neighborhood Risk, Neighborhood Safety and School Climate in Predicting Aggressive Behaviors
Abstract
Adolescents’ aggressive behavior is an important concern around the world. Therefore, in recent years, especially the researchers, who embrace ecological approaches have started to investigate school and neighborhood variables in addition to individual and family variables. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of gender, age, neighborhood risk, neighborhood safety, and school climate perceptions of students in predicting aggressive behaviors of adolescents. The participants were 400 (217 girls, 183 boys), 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students of two elementary schools located in Sincan, Ankara. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was carried out to analyze the data. The results indicated that age, gender, neighborhood risk, neighborhood safety, and school climate perceptions of adolescents significantly predicted aggressive behaviors of adolescents.
