Psychometric Characteristics of Social Provision Scale: Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to examine psychometric characteristics of Social Provision Scale. The sample consisted of a total 537 university students (320 female and 217 male) from different departments of the faculty of education. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted by using principal axis factoring and varimax rotation and results showed that SPS can be used as single dimension in Turkish culture. In addition, the results demonstrated that SPS has high internal and test-retest reliability. Internal consistency coefficient of the scale was found .90 and test-retest correlation demonstrated that the scale had adequate test stability over a four week period. The total scale score of SPS correlated significantly in the expected direction with measures loneliness and life satisfaction in the university sample. Results discussed and some suggestions were presented in the context of literature.
