Year 2008, Volume: 3 Issue: 30, 1 - 18, 23.04.2008

Abstract

The aim of this research was to examine if the academicians’ emotional intelligence ability predicts their humor styles and life satisfaction and if academicians’ emotional intelligence ability, humor style and life satisfaction differs with regards to academic degree variable in significant levels. For data collection, Bar-On EQ Inventory, Humor Style Scale, Life Satisfaction Scale and Personal Information Form were used. The participants were 362 academicians from different faculties of Cukurova and Selcuk University, 134 female and 228 male. For statistical analysis, one-way Anova, Tukey test, Kruskal Wallis H-Test, Mann-Whitney-U test and multiple regression analysis were used. Whereas academicians’ emotional intelligence ability was investigated with regards to their academic degree, significant difference was seen in interpersonal relation skills, adaptation and coping with stress subscales and there was not any significant difference in personal skills and general psychological situation subscales. When academicians’ humor styles were investigated with regards to their academic degree, aggressive humor style grades of research assistants were higher than lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors and professors in significant level. When academicians’ life satisfaction were investigated with regards to their academic degree, professors’ life satisfaction levels were higher than research assistants’, lecturers’, assistant professors’ and associate professors’ in significant level. It was seen that the academicians’ emotional intelligence ability explains and predicts their humor styles and life satisfaction in significant level.
