The effects of media on child health Review

Abstract

From birth on every child builds his world through what he hears and sees just like constructing a building from the base to the roof In the era we live in the majority of the data making up the building stones of the world originate from the media Contrary to adults children cannot understand the difference between set up and real so easily that is why they are so unprotected against the media For this reason the media must be very sensitive to childrens’ rights As social pediatricians we are very concerned about violence sexuality pornography emphasized by the media and their easy attainability by the children Adds about baby food decrease breastfeeding rates and using children in adds may lead to psychosocial problems within the whole family The goals of the symposium named “Child Health in the Media” that I organized in the name of Social Pediatrics Society are to evaluate the position of the media especially the television with respect to childrens’ rights and to discuss what could be done about the problems related to the media nbsp; In this article I would like to touch upon the lecture notes and the final report of the symposium Turk Arch Ped 2007; 42 Suppl: 1 5 Key words: Child health mass media

Abstract

Her çocuk dünyaya geldiği günden başlayarak temelden çatıya bina yapar gibi gördükleri ve duydukları ile kendisine bir dünya kurar İçinde bulunduğumuz çağda bu dünyanın yapı taşlarını oluşturan verilerin önemli bir bölümü medya kaynaklıdır Çocuklar kurmaca ve gerçek arasındaki farkı çoğu kez yetişkinler kadar kolay bir biçimde algılayamamaktadırlar ve medya karşısında yetişkinlere oranla daha korunmasız durumda kalmaktadırlar Bu nedenle medya çocuk haklarına duyarlı olmalıdır Bizler sosyal pediatristler olarak basın yayın araçlarıyla vurgulanan şiddet cinsellik pornografi ve bunlara rahat ulaşım gibi konularda çocuklarımız açısından büyük tedirginlik duymaktayız Mama reklamları anne sütü alma oranlarını düşürmekte reklamlarda çocukların kullanılması tüm ailede psikososyal sorunlara yol açabilmektedir Sosyal Pediatri Derneği adına düzenlediğim ‘Basın Yayında Çocuk Sağlığı’ toplantısının amacı; medyanın özellikle de televizyonun çocuk hakları açısından ne durumda olduğunun ortaya konulması ve bu konuda neler yapılabileceğinin tartışılmasıydı Yazımda bu toplantının konuşma metinlerine ve sonuç bildirgesine değinmek istiyorum Türk Ped Arş 2007; 42 Özel Sayı: 1 5 Anahtar kelimeler: Basın yayın çocuk sağlığı
