Fetal valproate syndrome Case Report

Abstract

Fetal valproate syndrome which is seen in children of epileptic mothers who have taken sodium valproate during their pregnancy is characterized by typical facial appearance major and minor malformations and neurodevelopmental delay A case with facial features including epicanthal folds depressed nasal bridge hypertelorism retrognathia low set ears and peripheral pulmonary artery stenosis patent ductus arteriosus and overlapping toes is presented for reminding this syndrome Turk Arch Ped 2009; 44: 106 8 Key words: Congenital malformations fetal valproate syndrome sodium valproate

Abstract

Fetal valproat sendromu gebeliklerinde sodyum valproat kullanan epilepsili annelerin çocuklarında görülen tipik yüz görünümü önemli veya hafif malformasyonlar ve nöromotor gelişme geriliği ile beliren sendromdur Epikantus basık burun kökü retrognati düşük kulak ve hipertelorizmi içeren yüz bulguları periferik pulmoner arter darlığı patent duktus arteriyozus ve ayak parmaklarında anomali saptanan bir olgu sunulmuştur Türk Ped Arş 2009; 44: 106 8 Anahtar kelimeler: Doğumsal malformasyonlar fetal valproat sendromu sodyum valproat
