RADICALIZATION DERADICALIZATION THEORIES AND RADICALITY IN FETO
Abstract
The study aimed to examine theoretical and practical studies on the concepts of radicalization and deradicalization and to examine FETO, the most complex terrorist organization that Turkey has faced in terms of both quantity and quality, in the light of these theories. In this context, firstly, theoretical studies on radicalization and deradicalization and applications in the field were examined. Then, FETO was evaluated separately in the context of radicalization and deradicalization processes. However, since deradicalization processes are still at the point of deriving theory from practice and each country applies its own methods, a clear comparison cannot be made. However, it has been observed that FETO did not enter a deradicalization process, as was the case with Turkish Hezbollah, because the leader of the organization could not be captured or all of its secret structures were not exposed. It has been evaluated that the radical and terrorist structure has turned itself into sleeper cells and is waiting for orders. In this context, it has been evaluated that Turkey is in a reorganization process rather than a deradicalization due to reasons such as not carrying out a deradicalization program against FETO, the leader of the organization not changing his political attitude, and the members of the organization not being able to communicate with the society.
