A SELF-REFLEXIVE TRANSFER: SAMPLE OF “MEMOIRS OF HALIDE EDIB” AND “MOR SALKIMLI EV” IN ALTERED SENSE OF REALITY OF THE AUTHOR/TRANSLATOR

Abstract

During the translation process, translator is expected to do translation considering the source and the target culture in accordance with his/her skopos set before translation. Beyond just translation, the translator is included to this process with his/her self-reflexive aspect to the text with both his/her personal criticism and own translation strategies s/he has determined. In this study, by self-reflexivity, reflection of changed ideas of Halide Edib, who is the author and the only translator of Memoirs of Halide Edib in time, when she was rewriting Mor Salkımlı Ev in Turkish, will be examined. Considering that autobiographies, which form the basis of this study, are the self-reflexive transfer, it is aimed to be examined with views of Hans Vermeer in “skopos” theory, which is a translation studies theory

ÖZDÜŞÜNÜMSEL BİR AKTARIM: YAZAR/ÇEVİRMENİN DEĞİŞEN GERÇEKLİK ANLAYIŞI İÇİNDE “MEMOIRS OF HALIDE EDIB” VE “MOR SALKIMLI EV” ÖRNEĞİ

Abstract

Çeviri sürecinde çevirmenden kaynak ve erek kültürü göz önünde bulundurarak çeviri işi öncesinde belirlediği skoposu doğrultusunda çeviri yapması beklenir. Çevirmen özdüşünümsel yönüyle, yalnızca çevirmenin ötesinde kendini de metne dâhil ederek gerek kişisel eleştirileri gerek kendi belirlediği çeviri stratejileriyle bu sürece dâhil olur. Bu çalışmada özdüşünümsellikle, Memoirs of Halide Edib’in hem yazarı hem de tek çevirmeni olan Halide Edib’in Mor Salkımlı Ev’i Türkçe’de yeniden yazarken zaman içerisinde değişen görüşlerinin çeviriye yansımaları incelenecektir. Çalışmanın temel inceleme nesnesini oluşturan otobiyografilerin özdüşünümsel bir aktarım olduğu göz önünde bulundurularak bir çeviribilim kuramı olan “skopos” kuramındaki Hans Vermeer’in görüşleri ile incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır
