ANALYZING OF THE TEXTBOOK 'YENI ISTANBUL' IN TERMS OF CROSS-LINGUISTIC MEDIATION IN TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE: B2 LEVEL

Abstract

In this research, the textbook "Yeni Istanbul" is examined in terms of cross-linguistic mediation in teaching Turkish to foreigners. For this purpose, B2 language level is chosen to be examined. Mediation is one of the areas defined in the 2020 update of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Mediation activities are divided into three: mediating a text, mediating concepts and mediating communication. CEFR 2020 is of great importance in terms of providing a common framework text in foreign language teaching. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, is used in the study. The activities in the “Yeni Istanbul” B2 textbook are examined with the content analysis technique. The titles related to mediation activities are created from the theme names in the B2 textbook. As a result of the research, most activities are found in the field of mediating a text (f = 15). In addition, activities related to mediating communication (f=13) and mediating concepts (f=11) are also identified. Only one activity/task is identified under the sub-heading of cross-linguistic mediation.
