Abstract

Child Friendly Cities, Rights of the Child and Pandemic

Year 2022, Volume: 33 Issue: 1, 245 - 266, 30.01.2022
https://doi.org/10.33417/tsh.911261

Abstract

Child Friendly Cities Initiative was launched in 1996 by the United Nations International Children's Fund and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). Various municipalities from Turkey have participated in the project. The article aims to present a general framework on the relationship between child friendly cities and the rights of the child, and in this context to draw attention to some of the rights of the child that have been negatively impacted by the pandemic - specifically the right to protection from exploitation, violence, and abuse; the right to education and the right to health- and to the inequality in the relevant fields.
