Osmanlı Devleti'nin özellikle XVII. yüzyıldan sonraki en önemli dış ticaret limanlarından birisi olan İzmir Şehri, son yıllarda önemli bir araştırma mevzuu olmuştur. D. Goffman’dan sonra, Elena Frangakis-Syrett Hanımefendi de, şehrin XVIII. yüzyıldaki ticaret hayatını incelemiş ve yayınlamıştır.
