Abstract

Bibliometric Profile of Transportation Poverty Literature: Network Analysis with Vosviewer

Year 2025, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 58 - 72, 31.10.2025
https://doi.org/10.38002/tuad.1665519

Abstract

The inclusiveness and efficient use of transport services provided in cities and the access of city dwellers to these transport systems are important for the quality of life in cities. Access to transport services is an important factor that increases social access, especially for disadvantaged groups such as low-income groups, the elderly, and the disabled. In this respect, while transport activities increase access to urban services, they also ensure social justice. In recent years, studies on the concept of ‘transport poverty’ have been added to the academic studies on transport. The aim of this research is to examine the current status and development of the international literature on transport poverty. The research data set consisted of 411 academic studies of various types created by searching specific topics from the Web of Science database. The network analysis method was performed using the VOSviewer program. In the research, country and author network analysis of the studies in the field of transport poverty, impact status of the studies, citation analysis, and periodically frequently used keywords were examined. As a result of this analysis, it was observed that the number of studies in the related field has been increasing gradually. The most effective studies were carried out in countries where social policies are given importance, such as England, Australia and Germany. Existing studies in the field of transport poverty make important contributions to the literature. Today, it is also seen that there are insufficient studies on disabled individuals, the elderly, children, women in societies where gender discrimination is evident, and women with babies using public transportation.
