Heybeli Höyük, with its finds, has a unique place among the prehistoric settlements found on the Balıkesir Plain located on the mountainous topography of Northwestern Anatolia with its large agriculture areas. According to the pottery finds, it is understood that the settlement has lived through two periods. The early phase of the settlement is dated to the Late Neolithic Age, and it is located within the spreading area of the Marmara region Neolithic Culture of the Balıkesir Plain. It can be observed that a large group of Chalcolithic Age pottery finds in Heybeli Höyük are in close parallel with the pottery culture known from the settlements along the Aegean coast. The late period can be dated to the Early-Middle Chalcolithic Age by means of this data, and it is understood that during this time course, the Balıkesir Plain was within the Aegean coast cultures' area of influence. It is evident that there is a time interval between these two periods and that the settlement was inhabited by communities belonging to different cultures. It is understood that the plain, located in the inner area of Northwest Anatolia, is a region within the influence of the cultures we recognize from the Marmara and Aegean coasts.
Kuzeybatı Anadolu’nun dağlık coğrafi yapısı içinde, geniş tarım alanlarına sahip Balıkesir Ovası’nda saptadığımız Prehistorik yerleşimler arasında Heybeli Höyük, buluntuları ile özgün bir yere sahiptir. Seramik buluntulara göre yerleşimde iki dönemin yaşandığı anlaşılmaktadır. Yerleşimin erken evresi Geç Neolitik Çağ’a tarihlenmekte olup Balıkesir Ovası’nın Marmara bölgesi Neolitik kültürünün yayılım alanı içinde yer almaktadır.
