In this study, a triangular pediment found during the excavation of the foundation of a modern housing construction in Sinop is analyzed. Detailed descriptions of this pediment, which constitutes one of the most qualified artifacts found in Sinop in terms of both the marble used and the decorations, were made and the possible relationship of the city workshop with other workshops operating in the Ancient Period was questioned in the light of the architectural decorations on it. The fact that the decorations on the artifact were mostly used on theater stage buildings or nymphaion façade architectures in the Ancient Period indicates that an important public building; probably a nymphaion, may have been built in Sinope. As a matter of fact, the presence of a monumental podium with niches in the area where the artifact was recovered, as well as numerous architectural fragments related to a water system such as sewerage canals, funnels and manholes strengthens the idea that a nymphaion may have been built in this area.
It is possible to say that Sinope, which was a powerful and rich city in the Black Sea region with its commercial activities in the historical process, carried out magnificent construction programs especially in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD in parallel with other powerful cities of Anatolia in order to stand out from other cities with its economic power and to gain the attention and admiration of the emperors. For this purpose, the architectural sculptors of the city may have contacted the Pamphylian masters, who were the most successful practitioners of the monumental facade of the period. The stylistic and typological features of the architectural decorations of the work also provide important information on this subject.
