Bu çalışma Niğde İli, İtulumaz Dağı Kilisekayası Keşişhanesi’ni ele almaktadır. Niğde il merkezine 6,5 km. uzaklıkta,
ilin doğu-güneydoğu yönünde sıralanan, İtulumaz Dağı ile Kızıldağ’ın arasında yer alan yelpaze formundaki dik yamacın
zirveye oldukça yakın, sarp kısmında denizden yaklaşık olarak 1950 m. yüksekliktedir. Niğde’yi ve çevresini görecek
bir konumla, batı-kuzeybatı yönünde kireçtaşından yekpare bir kaya kütlesinin içerisinde oluşturulmuştur. Keşişhane;
Muhammed’in sandalet türü ayakkabısı) motifinin kaya kovuğuna nakşedildiği örnekler incelenmiştir. Bu bağlamda Nal-ı
Şerif ve motifi hakkında bilgi verilmiş ve semboller incelenmiştir. Böylece Niğde İli kültürüne katkı sağlayacağını da
düşündüğümüz sembollerin bilim dünyasına tanıtılması hedeflenmiştir.
The study analyzes Kilisekayası Monastery located on Mt. İtulumaz in Niğde Province of Turkey. With an elevation
of 1950 m. above the sea level, and a distance of 6.5 km. to the city center, the monastery was built inside a monolithic
limestone situated towards west and northwest overlooking Niğde province, very close to the steep peak between
Mt. İtulumaz and Mt. Kızıldağ, which lie in the east-southeast of the city. The monastery includes sections reflecting
the antique architecture and is comprised of the human-made chapel, alcove and living space as well as rock hollows
where people lived in retreat isolated from the rest of the society in poverty, loneliness, and suffering. Also home
to the chapel, the limestone area features surprising characteristics thanks to the presence of symbols related to two
different religions in the two-story accommodation space and rock hollows used as the retreat area. The current
study aims to inform readers about Nal-ı Sherif (also Nal-ı Saadet), the footprints of the Prophet Mohammad, and
provide the interpretation of the engraved samples of Nal-ı Sherif on these rocks, among the aforementioned religious
symbols. The other aim of the study is to contribute to the cultural background of Niğde Province by introducing such
symbols to the literature.
