Zacharias Frankel and Solomon Schechter are very important figures in
Conservative Judaism. First of all, this importance comes from the idea which
defends that Judaism had always been an evolving religion historically.
Frankel, who is the founder of Historical School, his idea of Judaism has been
completely transferred to Conservative Judaism. Therefore, Frankel has been
accepted as the philosophical founder of Conservative Judaism stemming from his
influence. Schechter also played a very important role in institutionalizing
Conservative Judaism in the United States of America and has been marked in the
history of American Judaism as the founder of the movement. In this article,
Frankel and Schechter, who have been accepted as founders of Conservative
Judaism and their intellectual aspects and influences to the movement and
contributions, will be evaluated.
