"Aras Türkiye Eski Yakın Doğu Araştırmaları Dergisi/Turkish Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Studies", will be published online and in print as one issue annually.

The journal aims to be a new academic platform that includes archaeological, anthropological, ancient history, and linguistic studies from prehistoric times to the end of the Iron Age.

Archaeological excavations and research as well as anthropological and linguistic studies carried out in Turkey, South Caucasus, northwestern Iran, and northern Mesopotamia.

1. Papers to be submitted to the Turkish Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Studies for publication should include an abstract of minimum 150 and maximum 200 words and keywords of 3-5 words both in English and Turkish languages. Abstracts should also include the title both in English and Turkish.
2. Papers to be submitted to the Turkish Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Studies for publication could either be in Turkish or in English based on the preference of the author.
3. Papers to be submitted to the Turkish Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Studies for publication should be written in Times New Roman with 12 point size (pt) and single space, and should not exceed 30 A4 pages including pictures, photographs, and drawings.
4. Bibliographical references should be given within the text. However, references including explanatory extra information should be given as a footnote at the bottom of the page with 10 point size.
5. Photographs, drawings, and maps to be included in the paper should not exceed 25 pages.
6. Explanatory notes about the photographs and drawings, as well as references, if applicable, should be sent on a separate page.
7. Digital visual material should be sent in Adobe Photoshop TIFF/JPEG format.
8. Bibliographical references should be given within the text in brackets to include author surname, publication date, and page number respectively (Ökse 2017:35), (Schahner 2012: 45-48). Bibliographic footnotes should not be used. Long explanations disrupting the unity and coherence of the text should be given as footnotes.
9. Bibliographic references mentioned within the paper should be listed as in the following example at the end of the paper:

10. Papers accepted to be published in our annually-published journal are published in November-December of the same year. For this reason, papers to be submitted for publication should be delivered to the editors via e-mail (tujanes@gmail.com) no later than October 1.
11. The journal retains all copyrights about papers published.

Aras Türkiye Eski Yakın Doğu Araştırmaları Dergisi/Turkish Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Studies Journal is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics.


Research Ethics


The journal adheres to the highest standards in research ethics and follows the principles of international research ethics as defined below. The authors are responsible for the compliance of the manuscripts with the ethical rules.
Principles of integrity, quality, and transparency should be sustained in designing the research, reviewing the design and conducting the research. The research team and participants should be fully informed about the aim, methods, possible uses, and requirements of the research and risks of participation in research. The confidentiality of the information provided by the research participants and the confidentiality of the respondents should be ensured. The research should be designed to protect the autonomy and dignity of the participants. Research participants should participate in the research voluntarily, not under any coercion. Any possible harm to participants must be avoided. The research should be planned in such a way that the participants are not at risk. The independence of research must be clear; and any conflict of interest or must be disclosed. In experimental studies with human subjects, written informed consent of the participants who decide to participate in the research must be obtained. In the case of children and those under wardship or with confirmed insanity, legal custodian’s assent must be obtained. If the study is to be carried out in any institution or organization, approval must be obtained from this institution or organization. In studies with human subject, it must be noted in the method’s section of the manuscript that the informed consent of the participants and ethics committee approval from the institution where the study has been conducted have been obtained.


Author's Responsibilities


It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure that the article is in accordance with scientific and ethical standards and rules. And authors must ensure that submitted work is original. They must certify that the manuscript has not previously been published elsewhere or is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere, in any language. Applicable copyright laws and conventions must be followed. Copyright material (e.g. tables, figures, or extensive quotations) must be reproduced only with appropriate permission and acknowledgment. Any work or words of other authors, contributors, or sources must be appropriately credited and referenced.
Each article is evaluated by “double-blind peer review" by one of the editors and at least two reviewers. Plagiarism, duplication, false authorship / denied authorship, research/data fabrication, article slicing, slicing publication, copyright infringement, and hiding of conflict of interest are considered unethical behaviors. All articles that do not comply with the accepted ethical standards are not published. This includes possible illegal, incompatible articles identified after the publication.
All the authors of a submitted manuscript must have direct scientific and academic contributions to the manuscript. The author(s) of the original research articles is defined as a person who is significantly involved in “conceptualization and design of the study”, “collecting the data”, “analyzing the data”, “writing the manuscript”, “reviewing the manuscript with a critical perspective” and “planning/conducting the study of the manuscript and/or revising it”. Fundraising, data collection, or supervision of the research group are not sufficient roles to be accepted as an author. The author(s) must meet all these criteria described above. The order of names in the author list of an article must be a co-decision. The articles sent to the journal should be arranged according to the journal rules.


Journal editors have the authority not to publish articles that do not comply with the spelling rules or to return them to writers/authors for correction. The authors of the articles to be published in the Turkish Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Studies Journal are required to fill out the COPYRIGHT AGREEMENT FORM and send it to our address with a wet signature. Article; At no stage, after being sent to the Journal, the author's name cannot be added, deleted, and no changes can be made to the order except for the author names and rankings specified in the Copyright Agreement Form.


All processes from the submission of the application to the publication of the article take place electronically (https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/tujanes). Adding any article to the electronic system is accepted as an application for the publication of the research and the evaluation process begins. The authors assign the publishing rights of the studies and researches to the Aras Türkiye Eski Yakın Doğu Araştırmaları Dergisi/Turkish Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Studies Journal in Iğdır University they submit for publication. The copyright of the research published in the Aras Türkiye Eski Yakın Doğu Araştırmaları Dergisi/Turkish Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Studies belongs to the journal. It cannot be transferred, reproduced and published in another publication without permission from the journal management. The copyright fee is not paid to the authors for the published articles.
Any scientific, ethical, and legal responsibility that may arise from published articles in the Turkish Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Studies belong to the author/authors. In this regard, the Journal does not accept any convictions. In this regard, the journal does not accept any convictions. All individuals who do not meet the criteria for authorship but who contribute to the study should be listed in the "acknowledgment/information" section. Examples include those who only provide technical support, assist with writing, or only provide general support, and financial and material support.
All authors must disclose all issues concerning financial relationships, conflict of interest, and competing interests that may potentially influence the results of the research or scientific judgment. When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published paper, it is the author’s obligation to promptly cooperate with the Editor to provide retractions or corrections of mistakes.


Responsibility for the Editor and Reviewers


Editor-in-Chief evaluates manuscripts for their scientific content without regard to ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, citizenship, religious belief, or political philosophy of the authors. He/She provides a fair double-blind peer review of the submitted articles for publication and ensures that all the information related to submitted manuscripts is kept as confidential before publishing. Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the contents and overall quality of the publication. He/She must publish errata pages or make corrections when needed. Editor-in-Chief does not allow any conflicts of interest between the authors, editors, and reviewers. Only he has the full authority to assign a reviewer and is responsible for the final decision for publication of the manuscripts in the Journal. Reviewers must have no conflict of interest with respect to the research, the authors, and/or the research funders. Their judgments must be objective. Reviewers must ensure that all the information related to submitted manuscripts is kept as confidential and must report to the editor if they are aware of copyright infringement and plagiarism on the author’s side. A reviewer who feels unqualified to review the topic of a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process. The editor informs the reviewers that the manuscripts are confidential information and that this is a privileged interaction. The reviewers and editorial board cannot discuss the manuscripts with other persons. The anonymity of the referees must be ensured. In particular situations, the editor may share the review of one reviewer with other reviewers to clarify a particular point.
