The Biosphere-2 Experiment: An Evaluation from an Environmental Ethics Perspective

Yıl 2025, Cilt: 12 Sayı: 1, 64 - 78, 26.03.2025

Öz

The Biosphere-2 experiment is a major scientific experiment launched in Arizona in 1991, which aims to test the sustainability of human life in a closed ecosystem. This experiment provided an important opportunity to understand the complex relationship between humans and nature and to reassess our moral responsibilities towards the environment. The Biosphere-2 experiment made us think deeply about critical issues such as the use of natural resources, ecological balance and sustainability. There are many lessons to be learnt from this experiment conducted between 1991 and 1993. This article aims to evaluate the Biosphere-2 experiment from the perspective of environmental ethics and to develop new perspectives on humanity's relationship with nature in line with the functioning and results of the experiment.
