Abstract

Bee diseases affect bees in both juvenile and adult stages. Many of these diseases are caused by bacterial origin. The aim of this study is to determine whether hive tool, smokers, gloves, bee feeding apparatus, frames, inner cover cloths, hive frame carrying areas and hive outer or top covers used in apiaries are a reservoir source in terms of microbial diseases. For this purpose, samples were collected by visiting 27 different apiaries located in Solhan, Karlıova and Ilıcalar regions of Bingöl province. Collected samples were brought to the laboratory and analyzed using microbiological and biochemical methods. The samples status has been determined average % microbial growth rates, catalase and methyl red positive and negativity. It was determined that 100% microbial growth was observed in all hive tools, smokers, gloves and bee feeding apparatus collected from all three regions. It was observed that there was an average microorganism growth rate in 86.4% of the frame samples in the Solhan region and in the frame samples in the Karlıova and Ilıcalar regions, respectively, at 92.8% and 89.6%. In the inner covers Solhan, Karlıova and Ilıcalar regions, respectively, 91.4%, 89.7%, 96.7% microorganism growth is observed, 93.4%, 87.8%, 93.5% respectively in the samples taken from the hive frame transport areas, this rate is observed in the hive lids 94.5%, 90.8%, 88.9%, respectively. While the microorganisms grown in the samples collected from the Solhan area were catalase negative and methyl red positive, the opposite was observed in the samples collected from the Karlıova and Ilıcalar regions. As a result, a rich microorganism presence was detected in the hive tools, smokers, gloves, bee feeding apparatus, frames, cover cloths, hive frame carrying areas and hive covers used by beekeepers. It was determined that these materials used were a microbial reservoir source. Beekeepers should use these materials after disinfecting them to prevent the spread of bee diseases among colonies.
