Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of heat treatment on the surface roughness of medium density fiberboard (MDF) panels with 8 mm thickness. Commercially manufactured MDF panels were applied with heat treatment at 170, 190, and 210 oC with 15, 30 and 45 minute in the oven, respectively. The surface roughness of the panels was measured in accordance with ISO 4287. The average roughness (Ra), ten point average roughness value (Rz) and maximum surface roughness (Rmax) were measured by using Marsurf M300 test device with the stylus method. MDF boards with increasing temperature and time have been found to improve the surface roughness. Samples applied heat treatment with 45 min at 210 oC had the smoothest surface with Ra 3.57, Rz 23.28 and Rmax 27.28 μm, respectively. Results revealed that the surface quality of the MDF panels improved with increasing heat treatment and duration.

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı orta yoğunluklu levhanın (MDF) yüzey pürüzlülüğü üzerine ısıl işlemin etkisini araştırmaktır. Ticari olarak üretilen MDF levhalar 170 oC 190 oC ve 210 oC de kurutma fırınında ısıl işlem uygulanmıştır. Isıl işlemin her bir sıcaklık parametresi için 15, 30 ve 45 dakika belirlenmiştir. Levhaların yüzey pürüzlülüğü testleri ISO 4287’ ye göre ölçülmüştür. Test örneklerinin ortalama pürüzlülük (Ra), on nokta pürüzlülük ortalama değeri (Rz) ve en büyük pürüzlülük değeri (Rmax) Marsurf M300 cihazı ile iğne taramalı yöntem ile ölçülmüştür. Sıcaklık ve sürenin artması ile MDF levhalarının yüzey pürüzlülüğünün iyileştiği tespit edilmiştir. 210 oC ve 45 dakika ısıl işlem görmüş levhalar Ra 3.57, Rz 23.28 ve Rmax 27.28 μm değerleri ile en pürüzsüz yüzeye sahip oldukları saptandı. Sonuçlar, sıcaklığın ve sürenin artması ile MDF levhaların yüzey pürüzlülüğünün olumlu etkilendiğini ortaya çıkarmıştır.
