Leo Lionni'nin Frederick Adlı Masalının Göstergebilimsel Çözümleme Açısından İncelenmesi

Abstract

Leo Lionni tarafından yazılan bir çocuk kitabı olan Frederick, bu türde bir klasik olarak kabul edilir. Kitap, bir grup küçük tarla faresi içerisinde hayalperest olan Frederick adlı bir farenin masalıdır. Ana karakter Frederick, sıkıcı ve soğuk bir kış mevsiminde, tarla farelerinden oluşan aile üyelerine sıcaklık, renk ve kelimelerle ilgili anıları aracılığıyla aile üyelerini rahatlatarak onlara hayallerin ve hayal gücünün önemini gösterir. Frederick’in hatıraları sayesinde, fareler zor anları atlatmayı başarır. Anlatım tarzı ve yapısı sayesinde Lionni, hem çocuklar hem de yetişkinler için kendi başlarına bir mesaj bulmanın ve minik bir tarla faresi kadar küçük birinden bir şeyler öğrenmenin bir yolunu bulur. Frederick, üçüncü bir kişinin bakış açısıyla yazılmıştır. Anlatıcı, Frederick ya da hikâyedeki diğer tarla farelerinden biri değil, daha çok dışarıdan biri ya da hikâyeyi anlatan bir fare olabilir. Bu makalenin amacı resimli hikâye kitabı sembolünün doğasını incelemektir. Bu çalışma kitapta yer alan sözel ve sözel olmayan yollarla gösterilen tanımlanmış sembollerin anlamlarını üretmeyi amaçlamıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, Frederick'in farklı okuyucu tiplerine sunduğu bazı yorumları, etik önerisini, estetik ve toplumsal değerlerini ve değerlerin didaktiğine giden yolda bu çalışma göstergebilimsel açıdan ele alınmıştır. Bu çalışma, Charles Sanders Peirce'in (1991) göstergebilim teorisini kullanarak Leo Lionni’nin Frederick adlı resimli kitabında sembollerin göstergebilimsel sürecini belirlemeye ve bulunan sözel ve sözel olmayan sembolleri çözümlemeye çalışan nitel bir çalışmadır. Bulgu ve analiz verileri Frederick adlı resimli kitaptan alınmıştır

An Analysis of the Fable of Frederick by Leo Lionni with a Semiotic Perspective

Abstract

Frederick, a children's book by Leo Lionni, is considered a classic in this genre. The book is the tale of a mouse named Frederick, who is a dreamer in a group of little mice. The main character The main character, Frederick, shows his family members the importance of dreams and imagination by comforting them through memories of warmth, color and words during a dull and cold winter. Thanks to Frederick's memories, the mice manage to get through the hard times. Through his narrative style and structure, Lionni finds a way for children and adults alike to find a message for themselves and learn from someone as small as a tiny vole. Frederick is written from a third-person perspective. The narrator may not be Frederick or one of the other voles in the story, but rather an outsider or a rat telling the story. The purpose of this article is to examine the nature of the picture story book symbol. This study aimed to produce the meanings of the defined symbols shown in the book, both verbally and non-verbally. For this purpose, this study has been discussed semiologically on the way to the didactic of values, some of Frederick's comments, ethical suggestions, aesthetic and social values that he presented to different types of readers. This study is a qualitative study that tries to determine the semiotic process of symbols and analyze the verbal and non-verbal symbols found in Leo Lionni's picture book Frederick by using the semiotic theory of Charles Sanders Peirce (1991).
