The Role of Social Workers in Trauma-Based Therapy: A Theoretical and Ethical Examination of Therapeutic Competencies

Öz

This study aims to examine the professional competencies and therapist roles of social workers in the field of trauma-based psychological counseling. In line with current literature, the theoretical foundations, basic assumptions and internationally accepted principles of trauma therapy are discussed; these principles are evaluated within the framework of the ethical values of the social work profession. The study focuses on the following three basic questions: (1) What are the internationally accepted basic principles of trauma therapy? (2) How are trauma therapies and the social work profession structurally and theoretically related? (3) What is the importance of trauma-based therapy approaches in terms of social work practices? The findings reveal that the multifaceted effects of traumatic experiences on individuals necessitate social workers to undertake not only supportive but also intervening and healing roles. In this context, strengthening the therapist roles of social workers is of great importance in terms of implementing qualified and ethically based interventions. This study aims to contribute to the development of therapeutic roles in the social work discipline at the theoretical and practical level.

Travma Temelli Terapide Sosyal Hizmet Uzmanlarının Rolü: Terapötik Yeterliliklerin Kuramsal ve Etik Açıdan İncelenmesi

Öz

Bu çalışma, sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının travma temelli psikolojik danışmanlık alanındaki mesleki yeterliliklerini ve terapist rollerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Güncel literatür doğrultusunda, travma terapisinin kuramsal temelleri, temel varsayımları ve uluslararası düzeyde kabul gören ilkeleri ele alınmakta; bu ilkeler, sosyal hizmet mesleğinin etik değerleri çerçevesinde değerlendirilmektedir. Çalışma, şu üç temel soruya odaklanmaktadır: (1) Travma terapisinin uluslararası bağlamda kabul edilmiş temel ilkeleri nelerdir? (2) Travma terapileri ile sosyal hizmet mesleği yapısal ve kuramsal açıdan nasıl ilişkilendirilmektedir? (3) Travma temelli terapi yaklaşımları sosyal hizmet uygulamaları açısından nasıl bir önem taşımaktadır? Bulgular, travmatik yaşantıların birey üzerindeki çok yönlü etkilerinin sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının yalnızca destekleyici değil, aynı zamanda müdahale edici ve iyileştirici roller üstlenmesini gerekli kıldığını ortaya koymaktadır. Bu doğrultuda, sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının terapist rollerinin güçlendirilmesi, nitelikli ve etik temelli müdahalelerin gerçekleştirilebilmesi açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışma, sosyal hizmet disiplininde terapötik rollerin kuramsal ve uygulamalı düzeyde geliştirilmesine katkı sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.
