Ulusal ve Uluslararası İş İlanlarında Çevre Mühendisliği Mezunlarının İstihdamı İçin Aranan Niteliklerin İncelenmesi

Öz

Çevresel sorunların önlenmesi, kontrolü ve iyileştirilmesinde araştırma, tasarım, planlama veya mühendislik görevlerini yerine getiren öğrencilerin, kariyerlerinde ihtiyaç duydukları bilgi, beceri ve yetenekler müfredat kapsamında şekillenir. Lisans eğitimiyle kazanılan nitelikler, işverenlerin mezunlardan beklediği veya istihdam sürecinde disipline özgü becerilerden yoksun olabilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, çevre mühendisliği öğrencilerinin kariyer hazırlığını geliştirecek iş piyasasında aranan nitelikleri belirlemektir. Araştırmada, ulusal (Kariyer.net, İŞKUR, Eleman.net) ve uluslararası (Careerjet, Monster, SimplyHired) iş arama siteleri veya sosyal medya platformlarından (LinkedIn) elde edilen veriler üzerinde içerik analizi yapılmıştır. İlan verileri MS Excel çalışma sayfasına aktarılarak genel beceri, teknik ve teknik olmayan mesleki beceriler altında gruplandırılmıştır. Ulusal ve küresel ölçekli bulgular, en sık aranan nitelikler içerisinde seyahat, ehliyet gibi kişisel; diksiyon, okuma/yazma gibi iletişim; tecrübe, analiz/raporlama, mevzuat, iş sağlığı/güvenliği gibi mesleki; MS Office, AutoCAD, SAP, ArcGIS yazılımları gibi teknoloji; problem çözme, ekip çalışması gibi takım çalışması becerilerinin öne çıktığını göstermektedir. Çalışma sonucunda lisans müfredatına entegre edilebilecek bulgularla çevre mühendisliği öğrencilerinin mesleki becerilerini ve kariyer ihtiyaçlarını karşılama fırsatı açısından yatırım yapmaları gereken nitelikler sunulmuştur.

Investigation of the Qualifications for the Employment of Environmental Engineering Graduates in National and International Job Advertisements

Abstract

The curriculum is designed to impart the knowledge, skills, and abilities that students engaged in research, design, planning, or engineering tasks related to the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental problems. However, undergraduate education often lacks the discipline-specific skills that employers seek in graduates or during the employment process. This study aims to identify the qualifications sought by the labor market in order to enhance the career readiness of students pursuing a career in environmental engineering. To this end, a content analysis was conducted on data obtained from national (Kariyer.net, İŞKUR, Eleman.net) and international (Careerjet, Monster, SimplyHired) job advertisement websites or social media platforms (LinkedIn). The advertisement data were transferred to an MS Excel worksheet and grouped according to the following categories: general skills, technical skills, and non-technical vocational skills. The analysis revealed that the most prevalent qualifications sought across both national and global contexts are personal skills, including travel and driving licenses; communication skills, such as diction and reading/writing proficiency; professional skills, encompassing experience, analysis/reporting, legislation, and occupational health/safety; technology skills, such as proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, SAP, and ArcGIS software; and teamwork skills, including problem-solving and teamwork capabilities. The findings of this study can be integrated into the undergraduate curriculum, and the qualifications that environmental engineering students should invest in to meet their professional skills and career needs are presented.
