Kant ve Ontolojik Argüman

Abstract

Ontolojik argüman, Tanrı’nın varlığını a priori yolla ispatlaması açısından diğer teistik argümanlardan ayrılmaktadır. Belirli bir mahiyete sahip olduğu düşünülen Tanrı’nın varlığının Tanrı kavramının kavramsal çözümlemesinden hareketle çıkarılabileceği düşüncesi, bu argümanın temel tezlerinden biridir. Bu makale ontolojik argüman için en etkili ve kat’i eleştiri olarak kabul edilen Immanuel Kant’ın eleştirilerini etraflı bir biçimde ele almayı ve bu eleştirilerin tutarlı olup olmadığını değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Anselm ve Descartes’a göre, kendisinden daha büyüğü düşünülemeyen veya en mükemmel varlık olarak tanımladıkları Tanrı kavramı ile O’nun gerçek varlığı arasında zorunlu bir ilişki vardır. Kant ise varlığın herhangi bir şeyin kavramında içerilemeyeceği eleştirisi ile buna karşı çıkmaktadır. Makalede ontolojik argümanın Anselm ve Descartes tarafından savunulan klasik versiyonları ele alındıktan sonra, Kant’ın varlık bildiren önermelerin analitik olamayacağı ve varlığın gerçek bir yüklem olmadığı şeklindeki eleştirilerinin tutarsız ve yetersiz olduğu savunulmaktadır. Ayrıca bu eleştirilerin Tanrı’nın varlığını a priori yolla ispatlamanın önünde bir engel olarak görülemeyeceği ve önemli ölçüde cevaplanabilir nitelikte olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmaktadır.

Kant and the Ontological Argument

Abstract

Ontological argument differs from other theistic arguments in terms of proving the existence of God a priori. The idea that the existence of God, who is thought to have a certain nature, can be deduced from the analysis of the concept of God, is one of the most fundemental theses of this argument. This article aims to discuss Kant’s criticism comprehensively, which is accepted as the most effective and decisive cirticism of the ontological argument and to evaluate whether these criticisms are consistent or not. According to Anselm and Descartes, there is a necessary relation between the concept of God and his real existence. Kant objects this with his criticism that existence cannot be included in the concept of anything. Having examined the classical versions of the ontological argument defended by Anselm and Descartes, it is argued that Kant’s criticisms that no existential statements are analytic and existence is not a real predicate are both inconsistent and insufficient. In addition, it is concluded that these criticisms cannot be seen as an obstacle to proving the existence of God a priori way and can be answered significantly.
