Investigation of Self-Esteem and Self-Efficacy Levels of Vocational High School Students During the Internship Application: The Example of Tourism Vocational High School

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare the self-esteem and self-effcacy levels of the adolescents before and after the internship. In Tourism and Hotel Management high schools, a six-month internship period is carried out so that students can put their professional skills into practice. In this study, the Coopersmith self-esteem scale and children's self-efficacy scale were applied to 74 students before and after the internship to determine the changes in the students' self-esteem and self-efficacy during the internship. When the results obtained from the T-test and factorial Anova tests in mixed designs were examined, significant differences were found in the self-esteem and self-efficacy scores of the students before and after the internship. While there are significant differences for academic and social self-efficacy from the sub-dimensions of the self-efficacy scale for children; No significant difference was found for emotional self-efficacy. In the one-to-one interviews with 16 students after the internship, it was seen that the students had positive thoughts about the practices they did during the internship. As a result of the research, it was found that there was a difference in the self-esteem and self-efficacy of the participants after the internship; For other types of high schools, the subject of which extracurricular or school reinforcing activities can be applied for the development of students' self-esteem and self-efficacy was discussed.

Meslek Lisesi Öğrencilerinde Benlik Saygısı ve Öz Yeterlik Düzeylerinin Staj Uygulaması Süresince İncelenmesi: Turizm Meslek Lisesi Örneği

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, ergenlerin staj uygulaması öncesi ve sonrasında benlik saygısı ve öz yeterlik düzeylerinin karşılaştırılmasıdır. Turizm Otelcilik Liselerinde öğrencilerin mesleki becerilerini uygulamaya koyabilmeleri için altı aylık staj dönemi gerçekleştirilmektedir. Bu çalışmada da staj uygulamasının öğrencilerin benlik saygısı ve öz yeterliklerindeki değişimleri belirlemek için 74 öğrenciye stajdan önce ve sonra olmak üzere Coopersmith benlik saygısı ölçeği ve çocuklar için öz yeterlik ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Yapılan T testi ve karışık desenlerde faktöriyel Anova testlerinden alınan sonuçlar incelendiği zaman öğrencilerin benlik saygısı ve öz yeterlik puanlarında staj öncesi ve sonrası dönemlerde aldıkları puanlarda anlamlı farklar bulunmuştur. Çocuklar için öz yeterlik ölçeği alt boyutlarından akademik ve sosyal öz yeterlik için anlamlı farklar bulunurken; duygusal öz yeterlik için anlamlı fark bulunamamıştır. Staj sonrası 16 öğrenci ile yapılan birebir görüşmelerde öğrencilerin stajda yaptıkları uygulamalarla ilgili olumlu düşüncelere sahip oldukları görülmüştür. Araştırmanın sonucunda staj uygulaması sonrasında katılımcıların benlik saygısı ve öz yeterliklerinde farklılık bulunduğu; diğer lise türleri için hangi okul dışı ya da okulu pekiştirici aktivitelerin öğrencilerin benlik saygısı ve öz yeterlik gelişimi için uygulanabileceği konusu ele alınmıştır.
