Investigation of School Experiences of SyrianSecondary School Students: A Phenomenology Study

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe the experiences of Syrian immigrant students attending secondary school in Gaziantep. The design of the research is phenomenology. The participants of the study were six Syrian secondary school students and two teachers. Purposeful sampling method was used to identify the participants. Data were collected by Semi-Structured Interview Form and Personal Information Form. The collected data were analyzed using content analysis. In this study, it was observed that Syrian students who do not speak Turkish sufficiently are excluded from their peers by their peers in their school lives, and that these students have low success in the courses, but that Syrian students who speak Turkish sufficiently are adopted by their peers, and that these students are able to establish friendship relations with their peers.
