Hemşirelik Öğrencilerinin Benlik Saygısı, Narsisizm ve Kişilik Özellikleri: Devlet ve Vakıf Üniversitesi İncelemesi

Abstract

Hemşirelik ülkemizde üniversitelerin tercih edilen bir bölümüdür. Amaç: Araştırma devlet ve vakıf üniversitesinde hemşirelik lisans eğitimine başlayan öğrencilerinin benlik saygı düzeyleri, narsisizm düzeyleri ve kişilik özelliklerinin incelenmesi amacıyla yapıldı. Metod: Tanımlayıcı tipteki araştırma bir devlet üniversitesi ve bir vakıf üniversitesinde öğrenime başlayan 253 hemşirelik birinci sınıf öğrencisi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Verilerin toplanmasında; “Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği (RBSÖ)”, “Narsistik Kişilik Envanteri (NKE)” ve “Eysenck Kişilik Anketi- Gözden Geçirilmiş Kısaltılmış Formu (EKA-GGK)” kullanıldı. Bulgular: Verilerin analizinde Ki-kare, Mann-Whitney U-Testi, Student t testi ve korelasyon analizinden yararlanıldı. Her iki grubun bölüm memnuniyeti özelliği benzer, cinsiyet, yaş ortalaması, mezun olunan lise, anne eğitimi, baba eğitimi ve gelir düzeyi özellikleri benzer değildir. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin RBSÖ puan ortalaması 1.05 ± 0.53; NKE puan ortalaması 13.52 ± 5.54, EKA-GGK alt boyutuna göre puan ortalamaları; Psikotisizm 1.17 ± 1.03; Nörotisizm 3.10 ± 1.77; Dışa dönüklük 3.89 ± 1.84; Yalan 4.14 ± 1.45’dir. NKE ile RBSÖ puanları ve EKA-GGK Dışa dönüklük ve Psikotisizm alt boyut puanları arasında pozitif yönde, NKE ile EKA-GGK Nörotisizm ve Yalan alt boyut puanları arasında negatif yönde ilişki saptandı. Vakıf üniversitesindeki öğrencilerinin NKE puanları devlet üniversitesindekilerden yüksektir, RBSÖ ve EKA-GGK alt ölçek puanları iki grupta da benzerdir. Sonuç: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin benlik saygı düzeyi yüksek, narsisizm düzeyleri normaldir. Kişilik özelliklerinden psikotisizm düşük düzeyde, nörotisizm, dışa dönüklük ve yalan orta düzeydedir. Narsisizm düzeyi ile benlik saygısı ve kişilik özellikleri arasında ilişki vardır. Benlik saygı düzeyi ve kişilik özellikleri devlet ve vakıf üniversitesi öğrencilerinde benzerdir. Narsisizm düzeyi vakıf üniversitesi öğrencilerinde yüksektir.

Self-Esteem, Narcissism and Personality Traits of Nursing Students: A Review of Public and Foundation Universities

Abstract

Nursing is among the most preferred departments of universities within numerical departments in our country. Objectives: The research was carried out to examine the self-esteem levels, narcissism levels and personality traits of students who started nursing undergraduate education at state and foundation universities. Methods: This descriptive study was carried out with 253 nursing first year students who started education at a state university and a foundation university. The data were collected by using “Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE)”, “Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI)” and “Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised Abbreviated Form (EPQR-A)”. In the analysis of the data, Chi-square, Mann-Whitney U-Test, Student t test, and correlation analysis were used. Results: The department satisfaction level of both groups was similar, and gender, average age, high school graduate, mother education, father education and income level characteristics were not similar. Nursing students' mean RSE score was 1.05 ± 0.53; NPI mean score is 13.52 ± 5.54, mean scores according to EPQR-A sub-dimension; Psychoticism 1.17 ± 1.03; Neurotsism 3.10 ± 1.77; Extroversion is 3.89 ± 1.84; Lie is 4.14 ± 1.45. There was a positive correlation between NPI and RSE scores and EPQR-A Extroversion and Psychoticism subscale scores, and negative correlation between NPI and EPQR-A Neuroticism and Lie sub-dimension scores. The NPI scores of the students at the foundation university are higher than those at the state university, and the RSE and EPQR-A subscale scores are similar in the two groups. Conclusion: Nursing students have high self-esteem and narcissism levels are normal. Among the personality traits, psychoticism is at a low level, neuroticism, extraversion and lie are at a medium level. There is a relationship between the level of narcissism and self-esteem and personality traits. Self-esteem and personality traits of public and foundation university students are similar. The level of narcissism is higher among foundation university students.
