THE EFFECT OF MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTION CONDUCTED WITH COMICS INCLUDING FUN AND HUMOR ON STUDENTS’ MATHEMATICS ACHIEVEMENT AND MATHEMATICS ANXIETY

The aim of this
research is to determine the effect of math instruction conducted with comics
including fun and humor on math achievement and math anxiety of 6th grade elementary school students. This
study is designed as a quasi-experimental study with pre-post test design. In
implementation process, math teaching was conducted using comics including fun
and humor on experimental group while expository teaching approach was adopted
on the control group and comics were not used. The research was carried out
with 44 6th grade
students from elementary school in Muratpaşa, Antalya. Furthermore, Mathematics achievement test and mathematics anxiety scale were
used to collect research data. According to the results of analysis it was determined that the training done with cartoons including humor is more
successful in increasing mathematics achievement and reducing existing
mathematics anxiety than traditional method.
