The Effect of Constant Connectivity Pressure (Telepressure) on Digital Addiction Among Academic Staff

Abstract

This study examines the effect of perceived telepressure on digital addiction among academic staff in higher education institutions. The study employs a quantitative research design based on a relational survey model. The survey instrument included demographic and professional variables, the Workplace Telepressure Scale, and an adapted version of the Internet Addiction Test (IAT). Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, normality tests, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis. The findings reveal a significant and positive relationship between telepressure and digital addiction (r=0.58, p<0.01). Regression analysis further indicates that telepressure has a strong and significant effect on digital addiction (β=0.46, p<0.01). In addition, daily digital use (β=0.29, p<0.01) and email checking frequency (β=0.22, p<0.01) positively influence digital addiction, while age has a negative effect (β=-0.11, p<0.05). The overall model explains a substantial proportion of variance in digital addiction (R²=0.48). Overall, the results suggest that telepressure is a key determinant of digital addiction among academic staff.
