KÜMELENME MEKANİZMALARI VE YEREL SEKTÖREL SİNERJİLER: TRABZON’DA TÜRK SOMONU (ALABALIK) SEKTÖRÜ

Year 2024, Issue: 45, 213 - 230
https://doi.org/10.18092/ulikidince.1521189

Abstract

CLUSTERING MECHANISMS AND LOCAL SECTORAL SYNERGIES: TURKISH SALMON (TROUT) SECTOR IN TRABZON

Year 2024, Issue: 45, 213 - 230
https://doi.org/10.18092/ulikidince.1521189

Abstract

The Turkish salmon (trout) sector has an increasing impact on Türkiye's balance of trade. The sector plays a critical role in the country's economic growth as well as in creating jobs and promoting regional development. Fish farming and processing activities concentrated in the Black Sea Region support regional economic development and create employment opportunities for local people. This study examines clustering mechanisms and local sectoral synergies within the Turkish salmon (trout) sector in Trabzon. The aim of the research is to identify the roles and contributions of sector stakeholders, analyze cooperation dynamics and make strategic recommendations to improve competitiveness. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with various stakeholders such as fish farmers, feed suppliers, packaging and logistics suppliers, producer organizations and public institutions. The findings reveal that sectoral clustering strategies in the region support regional economic development but face challenges such as resource limitations, strategic planning deficiencies, and low product awareness.
