Analysis of the Challenges Encountered in Industry 4.0 Integration in the Apparel Industry with Fuzzy AHP

Abstract

With the industrial revolution called Industry 4.0, new production and consumption styles have emerged in the clothing and apparel industry. Recently, with the increase in technological innovations in the global market, the competitive environment has become increasingly difficult. It has become necessary for businesses to transform their processes to keep up with these innovations quickly. Rapid and continuous change in customer expectations in the apparel market is possible by making production processes flexible and automated. At this point, industry 4.0 innovations meet many needs. Numerous technologies and applications help eliminate inefficiencies and adverse effects in production processes. In addition to these benefits, the Industry 4.0 concept also has disadvantages. Since the size of the enterprises in the garment and clothing sector is primarily small and medium-sized, difficulties are encountered in integrating these technologies. In this study, the evaluation of these difficulties is discussed. Difficulties were identified through a literature review, and evaluation was made with the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process method, one of the multi-criteria decision-making methods. This method allows decision-makers to make effective evaluations in decision processes. Based on the results obtained from the evaluation, suggestions were made to the managers.
