Concrete exhibits higher strength under
compression loads, however, it does not provide sufficient performance under tension
loads. Short cut steel fibers are usually added in concrete in order to defeat
this disadvantage against tension loads. Besides tension strength, also
ductility and toughness of concretes are increased by addition of steel fibers
in concrete. Effects of the properties of the fibers on concretes were
investigated and some parameters were suggested to use in the design of Steel
Fiber Reinforced Concretes (SFRCs). Fracture parameters are taken as a
criterion in the design of SFRCs due to their more ductile behavior. In this
study, the effect of type and amount of hooked-ended steel fibers on the
fracture parameters of concretes was investigated by an experimental research.
In mixtures, different types of hooked-ended steel fibers added in different amounts
in concretes having different strength class. The three-point bending test was
performed on concretes and fracture parameters were determined according to
this test. Fracture parameters of SFRCs were modelled based on the experimental
results by an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). It is revealed that fracture
parameters were successfully predicted by this model.
