Çağdaş sanat müzelerinin kent kültürüne etkisi: Tate Modern ve Arter örneği

Abstract

Çağdaş sanat müzelerinin, kurulduğu yer açısından, kent kültürüne etkisi ve kente dair yenilikler getirme etkisi büyüktür. Birey, toplum ve kamusal alanda sanat ifadelerinin gelişmesi açısından önemli rol oynar. Kent markalaşmasından, kültürel kimliğin değişimine kadar oldukça güçlü izler bırakan çağdaş sanat müzeleri, toplumla birlikte gelişen ve toplumu da geliştiren kurumlardır. Bir çağdaş sanat müzesinin kent kültürüne ve bu kültürün gelişimine olan etkisi yıllar içinde, müzenin de gelişmesi ve farklılaşmasıyla anlaşılır. Bu çalışma Londra’da bulunan ve kurulduğu yer itibariyle kent kültürünün gelişmesine ve farklılaşmasına önayak olan Tate Modern ve on yıllık sürecinin sonunda farklı bir muhitte kendine yer edinen ve kent kültürüne katkıda bulunan İstanbul’un çağdaş sanat alanında önemli kurumlarından birisi olan Arter’in incelenmesinden oluşmaktadır. Her iki kurum da açıldığı yer ve en önemlisi yıllar içinde geçirdiği gelişimler sayesinde kent kültürüne olumlu katkılar sağlamıştır. Çalışma içinde Arter ve Tate’in gelişimini kent kültürüne olan etkisiyle ele alınmıştır.

Abstract

Contemporary art museums have a huge effect on shaping urban culture considering their location and their power of bringing novelties to the city. They have a major role in terms of developing new statements for individuals, society and public space. There is no doubt contemporary art museums may stand as a milestone in society’s evolution meanwhile a museum can help a city to become a trademark and change it’s cultural identity. The most competent way to understand the museum’s effect is to look its historical changes. This article looks at two different museums in terms of changing city culture, namely Tate Modern, an institution which has changed the city’s culture with it’s location and it’s involvement and Arter, another contemporary art institution, which has transformed city’s culture since the day it opened within ten years. Both institutions have added value to the city with their location and with their innovation throughout the year. This article also emphasizes the importance of Tate Modern’s and Arter’s contribution to urban culture.
