FORMATTING THE KARATAY MADRASAH AND ARCHITECTURAL SENSE EXTENT

Abstract

Historical architecture is the one of the most important means which reveals connection between concept, symbols, and shapes. Cultural values in that period, socio-ethnical formation and beliefs and traditions are the most important factors influencing architectural style. Madrasah, having a different place in Turkish-Islamic art, is the one of most remarkable building types in Anatolian Seljuk architecture. Motifs used to decorate and verses and hadiths imprinted onto these architectural buildings which constitute one of the original examples of Persian, Greek and TurkishIslamic synthesis have clearly revealed the approaching of Seljuks to cosmology. In this paper, it will be worked to discuss the senses of architectural concept and symbols of Karatay Madrasah through its parts.

KARATAY MEDRESESİ’NİN BİÇİMLENDİRİLMESİ VE MİMARİ ANLAM BOYUTU

Abstract

Tarihi mimari, kavram ve sembollerle biçimler arasındaki bağlantıyı ortaya koyan en önemli araçlardan biridir. Dönemin ürettiği kültürel değerler, sosyo-etnik oluşumlar ile inanç ve gelenekler mimari tarzı etkileyen en önemli unsurlardır. Türk-İslam sanatında ayrı bir yere sahip olan medreseler, Türkiye Selçuklu mimarisinin en dikkate değer yapı türlerinden biridir. Fars, Rum ve Türk-İslam sentezinin özgün örneklerinden birini oluşturan bu mimari yapıların süslemesinde kullanılan motifler ile yapılara adeta nakşedilen ayet ve hadisler Selçukluların kozmolojiye olan yaklaşımlarını net bir şekilde ortaya koymuştur. Bu çalışmada, Karatay Medresesi’nin mimari kavram ve sembollerinin anlamları medresenin bölümleri üzerinden tartışılmaya çalışılacaktır.
