Teachers’ Views with regard to Initial Literacy Programme of the Primary Curriculum

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to search teachers’ views with regard to initial literacy programme of the primary curriculum in light of the 1st and 2nd year teachers and reveal the problems faced during the implementation. The scope of the study is the 186 elementary school teachers working in the 38 schools located in the provincial centre of Uşak, in 2006-2007 academic year. Instead of sampling, the whole scope of the study has been reached. The measurement tool used for the research is the “First Literacy Evaluation Questionnaire”, which has been developed by the researcher. For the data analysis t-test, Tukey test and ANOVA analysis have been used. The research has exposed that teachers, having positive opinions regarding the first literacy program, find the gainings of the program quite reachable. Moreover, according to teachers, the classrooms with a large number of students face some implementation problems, the on-the-job trainings for the execution of the program are not adequate, and the students are experiencing problems concerning italic handwriting.

İLK OKUMA YAZMA PROGRAMINA İLİŞKİN ÖĞRETMEN GÖRÜŞLERİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, ilköğretim 1. ve 2. sınıf öğretmenlerinin ilk okuma yazma programına ilişkin görüşlerini ve uygulama sırasında karşılaştıkları problemleri ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışma evrenini, 2006–2007 öğretim yılında Uşak il merkezinde bulunan 38 ilköğretim okulunda görevli 186 sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Evrenin tamamına ulaşılabileceği için örnekleme gidilmemiştir. Araştırmada kullanılan ölçme aracı araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilmiş olan “İlk Okuma Yazma Programı Değerlendirme Anketi”dir. Verilerin analizinde t-testi, ANOVA ve Tukey testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada öğretmenlerin ilk okuma yazma programı ile ilgili olumlu görüşlere sahip oldukları, programda yer alan kazanımları ulaşılabilir buldukları tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca öğretmen görüşlerine göre kalabalık sınıflar uygulamada sorunlar yaratmaktadır; programın uygulanmasına yönelik yeterli hizmet içi eğitim alınamamıştır ve bitişik eğik yazı ile yazma konusunda öğrenciler zorluk yaşamaktadır.
