Abstract
This article takes the focus on the digital inequality in Turkey, communication technologies, and the use of digital technologies by the elderly in the new media ecosystem. By redefining the coronavirus spread to the world from China, Covid-19’s presence was accepted in Turkey on March 11, 2020. After the WHO declared a pandemic, the 65+ age group suddenly found themselves in strict restrictions. The 65+ age group has frequently been on the agenda with the restrictions, the bans, and the violation of rights during this period. The sample of the study consists of women who are in active working life or have just started retirement life, over the age of 65+, living in Ankara Çankaya region, and at the high socioeconomic level. It is the evaluation of information obtained by sending a questionnaire via Whatsapp. With the onset of curfews during the pandemic process, the focus has been on having digital communication tools that have become a means of maintaining life, skills to use, and the area of using them. The survey was conducted between April 5 and May 9, 2020. It was determined that the main variable that causes digital inequality is education and income, not age.
