Development and validation of the Shadow Education Perception Scale for high school students

Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop a valid and reliable scale to measure high school students’ perceptions of shadow education. The study was designed as a methodological scale development research. Based on a review of the literature, an initial pool of 30 items was generated and reduced to 25 items following expert evaluation. A pilot study conducted with 85 students indicated that the items were clear and understandable. To examine the construct validity of the scale, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed using data collected from 307 students, while confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted with an independent sample of 327 students to validate the factor structure. The EFA results revealed a five-factor structure consisting of 22 items: perceived academic benefits, perceived pressure and obligation, perceived educational inequality, social and psychological costs, and school disengagement effects. These five factors explained 62.33% of the total variance. The CFA and reliability analyses demonstrated that the scale is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing high school students’ perceptions of shadow education.

Lise öğrencilerinde Gölge Eğitim Algısı Ölçeği’nin geliştirilmesi: Geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışması

Abstract

Araştırmanın amacı, lise öğrencilerinin gölge eğitime ilişkin algılarını ölçmeye yönelik geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı geliştirmektir. Araştırma metodolojik bir ölçek geliştirme çalışması olarak tasarlanmıştır. Alan yazın incelemesi sonucunda oluşturulan 30 maddelik taslak form, uzman görüşleri doğrultusunda 25 maddeye indirilmiş ve 85 öğrenciyle yapılan pilot uygulamada maddelerin anlaşılır olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliğini incelemek amacıyla 307 öğrenciden elde edilen veriler üzerinde açımlayıcı faktör analizi (AFA), yapının doğrulanması amacıyla ise 327 öğrenciden oluşan bağımsız bir örneklem üzerinde doğrulayıcı faktör analizi (DFA) gerçekleştirilmiştir. AFA sonucunda ölçeğin akademik fayda algısı, baskı ve zorunluluk algısı, eğitimde eşitsizlik algısı, sosyal ve psikolojik maliyet ile okuldan uzaklaşma etkisi olmak üzere beş faktör ve 22 maddeden oluştuğu belirlenmiştir. Beş faktör toplam varyansın %62.33’ünü açıklamıştır. DFA ve güvenirlik analizleri, ölçeğin geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğunu göstermiştir.
