Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare the anthropometric characteristics of young basketball and volleyball players with their performance in terms of strength, flexibility, jumping, agility, balance, and speed.

Methods: The study included 20 female basketball players aged 13 on average and 27 female volleyball players aged 12 on average. The 47 participants in the study were divided into two groups: small and large. Basketball majors (BB)-volleyball majors (VB) and basketball minors (BK)-volleyball minors (VB) were assigned to the teams (VK). The athletes in our study were subjected to anthropometric measurements and performance tests. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro Wilk normality tests were used on the study's data, and the Independent Sample T-test was used at the =0.05 significance level for pairwise comparisons of the normally distributed data.
Results: When the somatocard is examined, it is discovered that 11 basketball players have mesomorphy-endomorphy, 7 have ectomorphy-endomorphy, and 2 have ectomorphy-mesomorphy body type, whereas 18 volleyball players have ectomorphy-endomorphy, 8 have mesomorphy-endomorphy, and 1 has ectomorphy-mesomorphy body type. seen. When hand grip strength, vertical jump, ball throwing, long jump, balance, sprint, and agility values were compared between small and large groups, there was a significant difference in both groups, but there was no significant difference in flexibility values. There was no significant difference in the asymmetry index values between the athletes in the big category, but there was a significant difference between the athletes in the small category.
Conclusion: Basketball players' body structures were found to be muscular and wide, whereas volleyball players' body structures were thin and long. Basketball players were found to be dominant in skills based on strength, power, balance, speed, and agility. Furthermore, when the limb asymmetries were examined, it was discovered that the athletes had different values, but when the symmetry percentage of both teams was considered, it was discovered that they had normal limb symmetry and were not at risk of injury.
