Modern dönemde yaşayan cumhuriyetçi düşünürler ise, negatif özgürlük ve katılım arasında bir denge kurmaya çalışmışlardır. An important notion for republicanism thought is freedom. The freedom notion in republicanism thought was based on participation during Ancient Greek then it was based on law during Ancient Rome. The republican philosophers during modernity tried to set a balance between negative freedom and participation. Philip Petitt, who is a contemporary republican, tried to contribute to this balance from an original perspective
