IMPROVING PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF NEEDLE PUNCHED UPHOLSTERY FABRICS

Abstract

The production of upholstery fabrics represents a significant segment within textile manufacturing, where the use of synthetic fibers is essential for achieving higher durability in the fabric itself. However, customer expectations for a natural appearance must also be considered. This study aims to identify the optimal product that balances a natural look with cost advantages, competitive pricing, and fabric durability, contributing uniquely to the design and production processes of upholstery fabrics. In this context, 333 dtex polyester yarns were used to produce air textured yarns. Various fabric productions were carried out with these air textured yarns according to different weaving densities, followed by needle punching and coating processes to enhance both the stability and natural appearance of the fabric. Following this, physical tests were conducted in accordance with ISO 14465 standard, and the results were analysed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) to determine the most suitable sample. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into effective strategies for developing upholstery fabrics that meet contemporary consumer demands.
