Fasciotomy in the Upper Extremity: Its Indications and Technique

Abstract

Compartment syndrom as a result of crush injury is frequently seen after an earthquake disaster. The treatment of the compartment syndrome is to do a fasciotomy. Fasciotomy is a process, in which the fascia surrounding the compartment is incised, and thus the elevated intracompartmental pressure is reduced. Knowledge about the indications and technique of the fasciotomy is essential for the survival of an extremity. Although it seems simple, the procedure has some certain rules. Since these rules are usually being undervalued, indications and the technique of the fasciotomy in the upper extremities is reviewed here.

Üst Ekstemitede Fasyotomi: Endikasyonları ve Tekniği

Abstract

Deprem felaketi sonrasında, ezici tipte yaralanmalar ve bunun sonucunda kompartman sendromu ile sık karşılaşılmaktadır. Kompartman sendromunun tedavisi fasyotomi yapılmasıdır. Fasyotomi kısaca kompartmanları saran fasyanın bir tarafından kesilerek açılması ve böylece kompartman içi artmış basıncın azaltılması işlemidir. Fasyotominin ne zaman gerekli olduğunun, hangi bölgede ne şekilde yapılmasının uygun olacağının bilinmesi ekstremite açısından hayati önem taşır. Basit görünsede belli kuralları vardır. Bu kurallar genellikle gözardı edildiği için, üst ekstremitede fasyotominin endikasyonları ve tekniği gözden geçirilmiştir.
