A Questionnaire Study: Anatomy Education And Student's Views

Abstract

A questionnaire was prepared by the Anatomy Department of Medical School of the Uludag University and presented to 191 students in the beginning of the fourth semester to evaluate their thoughts about their anatomy education in the first and third semesters. 82.7 % of the students (n=158; 53% female and 47 % male) stated that choosing medicine to study was their own will. 68.6 % of the students (n=131) stated they were regularly attending the theoretical lectures in classrooms; 58% of these students think that these lectures are inadequate, while overall inadequacy is expressed by 52.9 % (n=101) of the students. The elective classes opened by the anatomy department were within the first five subjects to be preferred by 82 students (42.9%). Almost half of the students (49.7%) were in favor of studying by themselves. 67% of the students (n=128) requested that the anatomy lectures were to be fully integrated with the clinics. Cadaver was considered as “a must” in anatomy education by 91.1% of the students, while 176 (92.1%) asked for educational materials together with cadavers. Anatomy education was considered to make 45.5% of the students “feel studying in a medical school totally”, while 47.6% responded that the role of the anatomy education was “partly” the reason of such a feeling.
