The Evaluation of the Health Status among Students in Four Primary Schools in Nilüfer Public Health Training and Research Area

Abstract

This research has been performed between 3rd of April and 29th of May 2002 to investigate the health and growth status of the students studying in four primary schools placed in Nilüfer Public Health Training and Research Area region. Refractive errors and color blidness tests, dental and physical examination were carried out. The body mass indexes (BMI) of the students were calculated and evaluated according to the BMI tables and graphics of CDC (Center for Disease Control and Preventation). In this research total 2793 students aged 6-17 years were evaluated. There were 1414 (50,6%) male and 1379 (49,4%) female students. The most common problems were decayed teeth (77,7%), refractive errors (25,3%) and ear problems (23,2%). 12,5% out of these students were underweight, 6,2% were overweight and 2,1% were obese. If decayed tooth, which is a common problem are determined and treated in early periods, teeth losses can be prevented. In addition treatment of the refractive error problems will increase the school performance of the students. Improvement of school health services is necessary for more healthy youths.

Nilüfer Halk Sağlığı Eğitim Araştırma Bölgesinde Dört İlköğretim Okulundaki Öğrencilerin Sağlık Durumlarının Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Nilüfer Halk Sağlığı Eğitim Araştırma Bölgesi'nde bulunan 4 ilköğretim okulunda öğrenim gören öğrencilerin sağlık ve gelişme durumlarının değerlendirilmesi amacıyla, 3 Nisan-29 Mayıs 2002 tarihleri arasında yapılmıştır. Görme keskinliği, renk körlüğü, diş muayeneleri ve sistemik muayeneleri yapılmış, ağırlık ve boyları ölçülen öğrencilerin beden kütle indeksi (BKİ) hesaplanmış, CDC (Center for Disease Control and Preventation)'nin BKİ persantil tablo ve grafiklerine göre değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada 6-17 yaş arasında 1414'ü (%50,6) erkek, 1379'u (%49,4) kız toplam 2793 öğrenci değerlendirilmiştir. En sık rastlanan patolojiler, çürük diş (%77,7), gözde kırma kusuru (%25,3) ve kulak patolojileridir (%23,2). Muayene edilen öğrencilerden %12,5'i zayıf, %6,2'si hafif obez, %2,1'i obez olarak bulunmuştur. Çok yaygın bir sorun olan çürük dişlerin erken dönemde saptanıp tedavi edilmesi, diş kayıplarını önleyecektir. Gözde kırma kusurunun tedavisi çocukların okul başarısını arttıracaktır. Okul sağlığı hizmetlerinin geliştirilmesi, daha sağlıklı bir gençlik için vazgeçilmez koşuldur.
