Fetal Surgery at the Dawn of 21th Century

Abstract

Prenatal diagnosis of fetal malformations by improved fetal imaging techniques, as well as the possibility to correct those conditions which were potentially fatal or which might improve the prognosis of the child if they were corrected before birth promote interest in fetal surgery. Additionally it has been shown by experimental fetal surgery research that the wounds created in the ectoderm of a fetus in utero, heal clinically and histologically without scar formation. In this review, historical steps, indications, techniques, and complications of the fetal surgery were summarized.

21. Yüzyılın Eşiğinde Fetal Cerrahi

Abstract

Fetal görüntüleme tekniklerindeki gelişmeler sonucunda doğum öncesi dönemde fetal malformasyonların tanısının konulabilmesi, diğer taraftan ölüm riski taşıyan ya da doğum öncesi düzeltilmesi halinde prognozun olumlu yönde etkileneceği patolojik durumların intrauterin dönemde onarımının yapılabilme olasılığı günümüzde fetal cerrahi üzerine ilgiyi artırmıştır. Ayrıca deneysel fetal cerrahi araştırmalarda, intrauterin dönemde fetusun ektoderminde oluşturulan yaranın, klinik ve histolojik olarak skar oluşmadan iyileştiği gösterilmiştir. Böylelikle yara iyileşmesi alanında da önemli bilgiler elde edilmiştir. Bu makalede, fetal cerrahinin gelişimi, endikasyonları, kullanılan teknikler ve komplikasyonlar literatür ışığında anlatılmaktadır.
