The Comparison of Manuel and Digital Metric Measurement Methods in Morphometric Studies

Abstract

When manual and computer-aided digital measuring methods are compared in anthropometric and osteometric studies, it is observed that the digital methods shorten the time spent and results obtained are far more accurate. The digital methods also have the advantages like repeatibility, building up a database from the collected data, saving digital records and reusing them when needed. In this sudy which aimed to compare the manual and computer-aided digital methods, measurements were made on femurs, which belong to two different periods (contemporaray group and 13th century Byzantine period group). The inclination, declination and Alsberg angels of the femurs were obtained via both methods. The parameters of the angle of inclination with the Byzantine period group (n = 16) and the angle of Alsberg with the contemporary group (n = 34) were significantly different.
