The Effect of Dinitro-o-Cresol on Glucose 6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase and Malate Dehydrogenase Activities in some Tissues of Rats
Abstract
The aim of study was to determine the effect of 4,6 dinitro-o-cresol (DNOC) on glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and malate dehydrogenase (MDH) activities in some tissues of rats. While glucose G6PD is a control enzyme in pentose phosphate pathway, MDH is an important enzyme in many pathways. In our study, rats (Rattus norvegicus) were intraperitoneally injected with 2.8 mg kg-1 dose of DNOC, a toxic agent widely used for insect control and crop protection. At 0, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 and 72 hours following injection, the liver, kidney, brain and small intestine tissues of rats were used to determine G6PD activity; on the other hand only liver and kidney tissues were used to determine MDH activity. Enzyme activities were measured spectrophotometrically. DNOC did not cause important changes in the G6PD activity in both liver and kidney tissues (p>0.05).
