Giant Liposarcoma of the Hand

Abstract

Liposarcoma is the most common soft tissue malignancy seen in adults. It usually derives from retroperitoneum and extremities, however, rarely seen in hands. If its diameter is higher than 5 cm, such tumor is defined as giant lipomatous tumor. We present here a 88-year-old male patient with a liposarcoma of the hand with 16 cm diameter and 483 grams weight, that caused restriction of finger and hand function and slowly grew over the past 20 years. Management of liposarcomas are still inconclusive. We successfully performed surgical resection with preservation of neurovascular bundles. Postoperative adjuvant external beam radiotherapy (dose 50 Gy) was performed. Functions of the hand returned to normal after the surgical operation and no clinical recurrence has been observed so far for the last two years. To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest liposarcoma of the hand in the literature.

Elde Dev Liposarkom

Abstract

Liposarkom yetişkinlerde en sık görülen yumuşak doku malignitesidir. Genellikle retroperitondan ve ekstremiteden kaynaklanır, nadiren elde görülür. 5 cm den geniş çaplı olanlar dev lipomatöz tümörler olarak tanımlanır. Bu yazıda 88 yaşında erkek hasta elinde 16 cm çapında ve 483 gr ağırlığında el ve parmak hareketlerini kısıtlayan 20 yılda yavaş büyüyen liposarkom sunulmaktadır. Liposarkomların tedavi seçeneği netlik kazanmamıştır. Elin damar ve sinirleri korunarak başarılı bir şekilde kitle cerrahi tedaviyle çıkarıldı. Postoperatif adjuvan radyoterapi (50 Gy doz) uygulandı. Cerrahi sonrası el fonksiyonları normale döndü ve 2 yıllık takipte rekürrense rastlanmadı. Literatürde bilinenler arasında en büyük liposarkom olgusudur.
