Dosimetric Comparison of Left Breast Radiotherapy Doses Obtained By Ssd (Source To Skin Distance) Method With Treatment Planning System Calculation

Abstract

The purpose of this study is comparing target and critical organ doses which are obtained by SSD method at the left breast radiotherapy with data obtained by 3D computer-based TPS and the control of dosimetric process by in-vivo dosimetric method. Tomography cutaways were taken CT simulator by 0.5 cm intervals, were contured on randophantom. Calibrated TLDs were placed the points defined in advance. Average of measurements values was calculated by 5 times irradiation for each method, target and critical organs doses were investigated. TPS and measured values were taken into acceptable limits under %5. Whereas average of dose calculated TPS three points in target by three-four field were respectively 206,67-209,03 cGy, the avarage of measured doses with TLD were respectively 208,55-210 cGy. Whereas the difference of measured and calculated doses heart and left lung with both methods were below %5, difference at right breast skin was calculated %14. The aim is to reduce the likelihood of recurrence and providing homogeneous dose distrubition in target and minimum level of steady tissues irradiation. The results of our study have shown in-vivo doses measurements made with TLD aren't ideal but helpful for defining the failures which may show up during treatment planning process.
