Dosimetric Investigation of the Treatment Planning Lung Cancer Patient Treated with Using Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy

Abstract

The aim of this study was to perform the dosimetric controls of lung cancer patients' IMRT treatment plans that generated by CTPS with using two different equipments and also to make comparison in terms of their reliability and practicability. Dosimetric investigation of 15 IMRT treatment plans which created by CTPS was performed by 2D-Array and EPID and then compared with gamma analysis. The overall median values obtained from comparision of 2D-Array and TPS for all plans were γmax= 1.207 (0.890 – 2.177) γort= 0.406 (0.326 – 0.508) and γ%≤ 1= 98.06 (95.05 – 100). And the overall median values obtained from comparision of EPID and TPS for all plans were γmax = 1.709 (1.265 – 4.324), γavg= 0.379 (0.257 – 0.531) and γ%≤ 1= 97.81 (95.02 – 99.82) for EPID. Although the overall results of IMRT plans verification using EPID and 2D-Array were within the tolerance levels, the results for γmax were higher in EPID. The differ-ences of spatial resolution was emphasized between two systems and thought that the result of differences caused by this spatial resolution differences. The measurement for low dose region, which is important for the lung cancer, EPID with its finer resolution is more suitable to detect the dosimetric errors caused by CTPS.
