Granulosa Cell Tumors of the Ovary: Retrospective Analysis of 22 Cases

Abstract

Granulosa cell tumors (GCT) are relatively rare, functional and low-grade neoplasms of ovary. They constitute 2-3% of all ovarian cancers. The aim of this study is to investigate clinical course, management and treatment outcome of the patients, and to reveal prognostic factors related with GCT. Twenty two patients who were diagnosed as GCT at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology clinics between 1993 and 2012 were enrolled in the study. Patients were evaluated by using FIGO staging. Median follow up after surgery was 24.50(9-41) months. Median age was 44 (28 - 83) years. Most frequent symptom of the patients was inguinal pain (54,5%). Ca 125 levels were assigned in normal ranges except six cases. Seven cases were treated with optimal surgical procedure and conservative surgery for fertility was performed in one case. Other cases were not treated with optimal surgery. In this study, stage of the tumor was determined as the most important independent prognostic factor. Studies with larger series are needed to expose the importance of other prognostic factors.
